About Me

I have been passionate about music from an early age and always knew I would choose a music-related career. I began taking lessons in piano and classical guitar when I was 8 and became obsessed with music in my teenage years, mainly playing the guitar and listening to music. I also enjoyed playing the piano my parents had in the living room, and although my piano-playing skills never improved beyond the beginner level, I always loved the sound of the piano and it was my favourite instrument to listen to (although I find the guitar more fun to play). By the time I got to secondary school music technology began to interest me and I acquired a reputation for recording and producing all the bands in my year on a cheap 8-track recorder, always free of charge (something I still enjoy doing as a hobby). Between 2007 and 2009 I studied Music Production, Mixing and Mastering at the Sheffield College of Music, achieving a BTEC in those subjects and improving my already keen ear for music.

I initially considered pursuing a career as a sound engineer, but in 2011 I read an article online about piano tuning and felt it would be the perfect job for me, as I believed my talents lay in hearing the underlying mechanics of music rather than the creative/artistic side of it. In September 2011 I embarked upon my training at the highly-regarded Newark College ‘Piano Tuning, Maintenance and Repair’ course – currently the only Piano Tuning course in the UK – making an agonising 3 hour commute from Sheffield to Newark via train every morning. Compared to that, the car journey to your house should be easy!

I passed my foundation level exams in Piano Tuning and Restoration in 2012 and in June 2014 I completed the 2 year advanced course. I keep my prices low as I’ve only recently started building up my customer base. So far I’ve tuned pianos in Sheffield, Chesterfield, Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham, Leicester, Robin Hood’s Bay, Scarborough and Whitby, with most of the jobs obtained through word of mouth and all of my customers seeming very pleased with the results.
