Yes, I have a Piano Tuner Sheffield website and a Piano Tuner Leeds website. It’s difficult to keep on top of both websites sometimes, but as far as booking customers in both areas? So far, so good. There seems to be more work in West Yorkshire, particularly in Leeds and Harrogate where a lack of piano tuners (mainly due to older piano tuners retiring from the trade) has increased demand – so much so that I can group together Leeds piano tuning jobs with Sheffield piano tuning jobs. That’s always nice. Honestly, I quite enjoy the long drives between cities as well as seeing new localities after the piano tuning work. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like work.
The problem with Sheffield is that there are already several Sheffield Piano Tuners currently active so for a city of its size I have fewer clients than you’d expect. Down south there doesn’t seem to be many Chesterfield Piano Tuners, so I get several jobs a week in that area. Rotherham is also a popular area – perhaps I should call myself the Rotherham Piano Tuner instead!
More and more piano tuning work in Hull and Humberside recently, so a third piano tuning website might be on my list shortly!
Finally after 6 weeks in the studio we’ve recorded our first single, now released on Progressive Gears records with an accompanying video. I’m the guitarist in this video (not the keyboard player) although I will be playing keyboards on one of the songs on the upcoming album, scheduled for October release. If you like what you hear, please log in to youtube and give us a like (this will help us get more gigs!) and follow us on your favourite social media platform.
We recorded both the song and video at Academy studio in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. Rhythm guitars were done in one take and the solo is the best of two takes (deliberately recorded quickly to make it sound more human). Dan Mullins from My Dying Bride handled the recording, while Keith Appleton both mixed and mastered it at the Academy Studio control room one weekend when I was away piano tuning.
The band name is a slight misnomer as most of our songs are either hard rock or melodic prog rock, but we will be releasing some heavier songs in future.
A one-off post unrelated to piano tuning… My band Apostles of Chaos have a new single coming out later this week – we’ve uploaded a short, unmixed preview of it to facebook.
If you’re on there please give us a ‘like’ to show your support (this will help us acquire more gigs in future). The band is based in Dewsbury but we play gigs around Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield, Rotherham, sometimes as far as St Helens and Southampton, and things will get even busier towards the end of 2018. Although pianos and piano tuning are now my forte, I’ve gone back to my first love (the electric guitar) in this band. If you like progressive rock or 70s and 80s rock in the style of Boston, Kansas, Styx, Yes, Genesis, Marillion, etc then this may be your thing – more songs will be released over the next few months and a full length LP is scheduled for an October release. There aren’t many bands playing this style at the moment so hopefully we’re adding something slightly different to the Yorkshire music scene!
